Frequently asked questions
Everything about how Reign works, what it costs, and how your data is handled. Can't find your answer? Ask us.
General
Is Reign a bank, or can it move my money?
No. Reign is not a bank, lender, or investment platform. It only reads your financial data — it never initiates a transfer, payment, or trade. Account access is read-only, end to end.
How does account connection work, and is it safe?
Reign connects to your bank, investment, and credit accounts through Plaid, the same connection technology thousands of financial apps (Venmo, Robinhood, and most banking apps) use. Reign never sees or stores your bank login — Plaid handles that exchange directly — and Reign only ever receives read-only access.
Do you sell my data or use it to train AI?
No. Your financial data is never sold, shared with third parties for marketing, or used to train any AI model. It's used only to build your Outlook and plan, and to power Reign's monitoring of your own accounts.
Is this financial advice?
No. Reign is not a licensed financial advisor, and nothing it surfaces is personalized investment or financial advice. It's a planning and monitoring tool — the observations, projections, and recommendations are informational, meant to help you think, not a substitute for a professional when you need one.
Do I have to connect my bank accounts to use Reign?
No. Your first Outlook — retirement age, health score, and observations — is built entirely from numbers you enter yourself, with no account and no bank connection required. Connecting real accounts later is what upgrades those estimates to your actual numbers.
How much does Reign cost?
The free Outlook and scenario modeling are always free. Full account connection, ongoing monitoring, and the plan builder are part of the founding membership: $20/month or $200/year, locked in for the first 50 members.
What's different from a budgeting app or dashboard?
Budgeting apps and dashboards show you numbers. Reign builds a specific plan with you, then runs in the background — monitoring your accounts, briefing you on what changed, and telling you the next highest-leverage action, instead of leaving you to interpret a chart.
How Reign calculates your numbers
How does Reign calculate my FI number?
Your FI (financial independence) number is monthly spending × 12 × a multiplier that adjusts for how early you’re retiring — the earlier you retire, the more conservative (higher) the multiplier, since your money needs to last longer.
Why is my FI age different from other retirement calculators?
Most calculators use a flat 25× rule (the 4% rule) no matter when you retire. Reign adjusts that multiplier based on your actual projected retirement age — up to 31× before 45, down to 25× at 65 and later — which produces a more conservative, personalized number for early retirees.
Does Reign factor in Social Security?
Not yet, deliberately. Reign estimates and shows your Social Security benefit, but doesn’t subtract it from your FI number — doing that accurately means modeling an actual retirement drawdown (a bridge period before you claim, then a blended income source after), which Reign doesn’t simulate yet. We’ll fold it in once that ships.
How accurate are the projections?
They’re a range, not a single guaranteed number. Reign runs your numbers through hundreds of simulated versions of the future with varying market returns and shows the spread alongside the average outcome — a reminder that any projected age is an estimate, not a promise.
Pricing & membership
Is the paid membership available yet?
Yes. The Founding membership is $20/month or $200/year, locked in for the first 50 members. The free Outlook and scenario modeling remain fully available with no account, no bank connection, and no payment information required.
Do I need a credit card to try Reign?
No. Your first Outlook is built entirely from numbers you enter yourself, with no account and no payment information required.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Manage or cancel your Founding membership anytime from Settings — no forms, no phone call. The free tier never asks for a payment method in the first place, so there's nothing to cancel there.
Privacy & security
How is my data stored and protected?
All data is stored in Supabase (SOC 2 Type II certified) and encrypted at rest with AES-256; everything in transit is encrypted via TLS. Bank access tokens live server-side only and are never sent to your browser, and row-level security means only you can access your own data.
Can I disconnect my accounts or delete my data?
Yes. You can disconnect any linked bank account at any time from the Accounts page. To request a full data export or account deletion, email privacy@meetreign.com — we respond within 30 days.
AI in Reign
What AI does Reign use?
Google Gemini. Gemini writes the plain-language narrative around your numbers — the observations, the health score explanation, your weekly brief — but never calculates or invents a number itself; every figure it writes about was already computed by deterministic code first.
Does the AI make financial decisions on my behalf?
No. Reign is read-only end-to-end — the AI can’t move money, place a trade, or take any action on your accounts. It writes about your numbers; it never touches them.
How do you make sure the AI doesn’t make up numbers?
Every generated narrative on your Outlook and weekly brief is automatically checked against the real numbers before it’s shown to you, and rejected and regenerated once if it cites a figure that doesn’t match. Chat responses stream live, so they’re checked after the fact rather than gated before you see them — we’re working toward the same guarantee there.
Getting started
Do I need to create an account to try Reign?
No. Start with the free Outlook — no signup required. Create an account only when you want to save your Outlook, connect real accounts, or come back to it later.
